Over a year ago the world shut down. I have literally spent so much (quality?) time with my husband and son in the last 384 days that I yearn for nothing other than to be alone.

Little Sh*t
Like so many others, we got a quarantine dog…and literally opted into an entirely new level of crazy. Don’t get me wrong, this wasn’t an impulsive decision. Matt and I both grew up with dogs and we’ve dreamed of a family dog for our only child for a long time…and 2020 delivered! So, here we are: family of three humans, one cat (Ralphie), one fish (Ted) and now one dog (Chester, a.k.a, Chess, Chet, Asshole).
Back Again
A lot has happened since my last post: the holidays came and went; we’ve been fully remote since Thanksgiving; we rescued a dog; 20-f*cking-20 finally ended; there’s a vaccine; a new president; and it’s suddenly colder than a penguin’s pecker.
Procrastination Station
From the outside looking in, I would tell myself (or anyone camped out at the procrastination station) to simply do more and be better. Given the 2020 stressors that just won’t quit—and the fact that only those friends mentioned above read this silly little thing—I won’t beat myself up too much for my obvious failures. Instead, I’ll set an intention to heed my own advice: “just be fucking better, Angel.”
Semi-Sweet
My almost-7-year-old officially turned 7. This has been an emotional year. Not just because COVID-19 has changed the way we live and BLM will hopefully change the way we treat others, but also because I turned 37 and feel fucking old for the first time, and my baby turned 7. This one hit me foreContinue reading “Semi-Sweet”
‘Murica
Last year, we spent the 4th of July up in Maine, surrounded by family and friends. There was a bike parade for the kids, a festival and of course beaches, booze and tons of fireworks! It doesn’t get more American than that. …This year, thanks to COVID, it was a little different. We literally hadContinue reading “‘Murica”
Outdoorsy-ish AF
We like to think we’re outdoorsy, but in reality we’re the outdoorsy type who talks about going camping and yet we own no gear. We go for nature walks and might spot a handful of migrating birds (my husband’s an amateur birder), or hike a local hill (not a mountain), but we enjoy being outdoorsContinue reading “Outdoorsy-ish AF”
For Our Brown (and Black) Friends
I started this blog as a humorous outlet and coping mechanism during the pandemic I still struggle to believe is real. It was meant to be light, but raw—to honestly portray the challenges and acceptances that I experience with my small family during these crazy times. On May 25th, I lost all words. The murderContinue reading “For Our Brown (and Black) Friends”
The Burbs
If you haven’t seen this gem in a while, I highly recommend revisiting it while we’re all stuck at home stalking our neighbors. It’s honestly amazing to me how many of my neighbors I’ve come to know (and know well) during the past 11 weeks. We went from 0 to 100. And what’s even moreContinue reading “The Burbs”
He’s not a serial killer!
In our house, it wasn’t so much the terrible twos, but the fucking fours and fives. Jacoby would have violent “fits” that left my husband and I utterly bewildered. We tried everything: time outs, toy removal, positive reinforcement, and (gulp) even spankings (which just suck for everyone)…but nothing worked. I read books (all the books)Continue reading “He’s not a serial killer!”
